The 1940s wasn't just defined by war; it was a crucible for technology
that built our modern world. Here are the three main technological innovations of the
decade. First, the Electronic Computer. Completed in 1945,
the ENIAC was a room-sized giant powered by vacuum tubes. It calculated complex
math in seconds, laying the physical groundwork for the digital device you are using right
now. Second, Microwave Technology. While working on radar magnetrons for
WWII, engineer Percy Spencer noticed a candy bar melted in his pocket.
This happy accident led to the first commercial microwave oven in 1947.
