The Demon King Hiranyakashipu

Hiranyakashipu was a powerful asura (demon) who wanted to conquer the universe and be worshipped

as a god. To gain this power, he performed severe penance and was granted a boon by

Lord Brahma. The boon made him nearly invincible. He could not be killed:

by man or animal indoors or outdoors during the day or at night on the ground or

in the sky by any weapon, animate or inanimate With this boon, Hiranyakashipu became

arrogant and began terrorizing the worlds. He declared himself God and demanded

everyone worship him.
