In July 1518, a bizarre and terrifying event took place in the city of Strasbourg.
It began with one woman, Frau Troffea, who stepped into the street and
started dancing alone. She didn't stop for days. Soon, dozens of others
joined her in a rhythmic frenzy. Local doctors and priests were baffled. Their solution?
They thought the victims needed more dancing. They hired musicians and built a
stage, believing the dancers just needed to get it out. But the dancing
didn't stop. People began collapsing from exhaustion and heart attacks. The Dancing Plague
remains one of history's most mysterious cases of mass hysteria.
