A New Dawn for Kenya

From the book, Out of a Storm by Jason Njenga, developed with John Mwazemba: On December

12, 1963, Kenya awoke to a new dawn. The Union Jack was

lowered, and in its place, the black, red, and green of the

Kenyan flag rose proudly into the morning sky. From the crowded streets of Nairobi

to the still waters of Mombasa, joy erupted. The chains of colonialism had been broken,

and in their place stood a people united by resilience and vision. The air was thick

with possibility. Farmers returned to their fields with renewed purpose, classrooms filled
