A Paraguayan Bakery in Shoreditch

A true story. Back in 2003, I had to go to Brazil for a work event. As it was my second

time in the country, I decided to stay on and explore a few cities beyond Rio and São Paulo.

One of the places I wanted to visit was Manaus, the Amazon capital. By chance,

a colleague from Paraguay, Diana, had the same idea, and since we were

both in the Amazon at the same time, we decided to travel together. We were like‑minded

in many ways; over three days we explored Manaus, did jungle tours, and took a boat

trip along the Amazon. We’ve stayed in touch ever since. Fast‑forward to 2013,

a year after the Olympics. We were both now married, and Diana decided
