AI is officially making cancer screenings safer and way faster. Usually, a whole-body PET
scan takes nearly thirty minutes and exposes patients to a significant amount of radiation.
But researchers just proved they can slash that time down to three minutes. They took these
ultra-fast, low-dose scans, which usually look grainy and unusable, and fed them into
a deep learning model called CycleGAN. The AI successfully reconstructed the images,
filling in the missing details to match the quality of a full-length scan. Doctors could spot
lesions just as accurately, meaning we might soon see way less radiation and much
shorter hospital visits.
