The United States actually hit a zero dollar debt balance exactly once in history.
On January 8, 1835, President Andrew Jackson announced the national debt
was completely paid off. He didn't just lower the bill; he obliterated it.
Jackson viewed debt as a curse and went absolutely feral to fix it. He vetoed expensive
infrastructure projects, sold off public lands, and fought the central banks until the
balance sheet was clean. For a brief moment, America owed nothing to anyone.
It was the ultimate financial flex. Of course, the economy crashed shortly after because
the government didn't know how to handle the surplus, but the lesson stands. If a young,
