Ancient Egyptian Cat Mourning Rituals

Did you know ancient Egyptians would shave off their eyebrows when their beloved cats died.

This was a genuine mourning ritual that showed just how sacred cats were in Egyptian

society. Cats were considered divine creatures, protectors of the home,

and symbols of the goddess Bastet. When a family cat passed away, every member would

shave their brows as a sign of respect and grief. The mourning period would last until

their eyebrows grew back completely. They even mummified their cats and buried them in special

cemeteries with toys and food for the afterlife.
