Ancient Terrors of the Appalachians

The Appalachian Mountains hide things that predate human memory. The Not Deer walks

on backward knees, its eyes too human, watching from treelines at dusk. Settlers spoke of

the Wampus Cat, a cursed woman trapped in feline form, her screams echoing through hollows.

Then there's the Moon Eyed People, pale beings who vanished into caves when sunlight first

touched these peaks. Old timers warn about the Tailypo, a creature that reclaims what you

steal from it. These mountains remember when ancient things ruled here. They never truly

left. They just learned to wait in the spaces between the trees, patient as stone.
