Animals That See Ultraviolet Light

Some animals see a completely different version of the world than we do. Humans see only

a small slice of the light spectrum. But animals like bees, birds,

and reindeer can see ultraviolet light. Many flowers have UV patterns that

act like landing guides, directing insects to nectar. In birds,

UV vision helps identify mates, track prey, and even see signals invisible to predators.

This works because their eyes have extra light-detecting cells tuned to shorter wavelengths.
