The numbers extracted from multiple years of data show that Asian Americans have consistently
been involved in fewer fatal accidents per capita than every other major racial group.
In 2021 Asians had the lowest traffic fatality rate in the country with 2.53 per 100,000
people. Asians also made up 6% of the U.S. population but contributed to only 1% of traffic
deaths, meaning Asian drivers are underrepresented in these statistics. From 2016 to 2020,
Asian traffic fatalities decreased by 34%, the largest decline of all racial groups and from 2017 to
2021, Asians were one of the only groups to see a consistent decline in fatal
accidents with a 6% percent decrease.
