The most savage Christmas morning in history involved a choir of assassins and a heavy metal
cross. In 820 AD, the Byzantine Emperor Leo V was at church, celebrating the
holiday after sentencing his best friend Michael to a fiery death. But Michael had
a backup plan. His conspirators dressed up as monks and infiltrated the morning service.
Just as the hymns started, they drew their swords. Leo didn't panic.
He grabbed a giant wooden cross from the altar and started swinging it like a club,
fighting for his life in the middle of the sanctuary. Despite his holy weapon,
he was overwhelmed and hacked to pieces. The killers immediately stormed the dungeon, freed Michael from
