You ever notice how the people who say, "We don't see color," are the same people
banning every book written by someone who isn't white? Like, "We don't see color,"
but we do see a problem with your entire literary section. They'll swear up
and down, "We just wanna protect the children." Protect them from what?
Reading? Vocabulary? Historical accuracy? They don't see color, but the moment a
book has a Black protagonist, a Latino family, an indigenous perspective, or literally anyone
who isn't named Chad or Becky, suddenly it's inappropriate content. And the excuses
are wild. "This book teaches division." No, it teaches context.
