Barbara Ernie’s Chest Thief Scheme

History stories you've never heard before. In the seventeen eighties,

Barbara Ernie traveled around Europe with a chest. When she stopped for the night,

she would ask that her chest be put in a secure room because it contained treasure.

Overnight, a small man would emerge from the chest and steal any valuables he

could find. Ernie and her accomplice were arrested in North Liechtenstein on 05/27/1784.

Ernie was found guilty of theft and sentenced to death. She was on 02/26/1785.

She was the last person in Liechtenstein. It's unknown what happened to her accomplice.
