Basketball Dreams, Broken Knees

Basketball saved my life but destroyed my knees by age nineteen. Started playing

at six years old, became obsessed. Made varsity as a freshman, got scouted by division

one schools junior year. Then during a tournament, I landed wrong from a layup.

Tore my ACL, meniscus, and MCL all at once. Doctors said I could recover,

so I did the surgery and rehab. Came back senior year, felt unstoppable

for three games. Then my other knee gave out. Same injuries, opposite leg.

Now I can barely walk up stairs without pain, but I'd do it all again.
