Beauty Standards in *Misbehaviour*

That supposedly feminist movie is actually reinforcing the exact beauty standards it claims

to hate. Take the film *Misbehaviour*. It critiques beauty pageants, but has Keira Knightley

wear hours of makeup just to look "natural." It’s selling us an impossible standard of a “bare face.”

The film also creates a fake war between the glamorous pageant girls and the frumpy protestors,

as if you can’t be both. It tells you that you can either be pretty or have opinions,

but never both. It’s the whole lip gloss versus logic debate, and it’s tired.

You don’t have to choose.
