One of history's greatest victories happened because one side ate breakfast and the other didn't.
Hannibal Barca played the Romans like a fiddle at the Battle of the Trebia. He knew the Roman
general was desperate for glory, so he set a trap on a freezing December morning.
Hannibal let his men sleep in, eat a hot meal, and cover themselves in oil to stay warm.
Meanwhile, he baited the Romans into wading chest-deep through an icy river before they even
had coffee. By the time the Romans reached the battlefield, they were freezing,
starving, and exhausted. Hannibal’s warm, well-fed troops slaughtered them.
