Breaking the Silence on Violence

Half the population is terrified to walk alone at night while the other half doesn't even

think about it. There is a famous experiment where a speaker asks a room full of guys

what they do daily to avoid being sexually assaulted. Silence. Maybe one guy says

I stay out of prison. Then he asks the women. Hands fly up. Holding keys as

weapons, checking back seats, never jogging with headphones. It is a mental checklist

running 24/7. We call this a women's issue, but that is a lie. Men are the ones

committing the violence. If you are a guy, being a good person isn't enough anymore. We have to actually

speak up because our silence just protects the abusers.
