Breathing in the Dark

A girl home alone hears a violent crash from downstairs. Pure terror floods her body.

She pulls the covers over her head, trembling in the darkness. Every second of

silence feels worse than the last. Finally, she musters the courage to investigate.

She creeps down the hallway, barely breathing. The stairs groan under her weight.

She reaches the living room and flips the light switch. Nothing happens.

The power is out. Then she hears breathing behind her. Slow and steady. She spins around

and sees a dark figure standing in the doorway, perfectly still, watching her.
