Canada’s Great Maple Syrup Heist

Canada has a real “strategic reserve” of maple syrup. Like… an actual warehouse packed

with barrels of it. And in 2011, people discovered a way to make a

massive amount of syrup… quietly disappear. Over time, trucks came and went from a storage

facility in Quebec. The barrels all looked identical—plain metal drums stacked high.

So the plan was painfully simple: Barrels were removed, taken to another location,

the syrup was transferred out… and the same barrels were brought back. Sometimes they were

even topped up with water so everything looked normal. And for a while… it worked.

Because the barrels weren’t checked constantly, and from the outside, nothing seemed off.
