Close Enough, Out of Time

I'm outside looking in. Close enough to feel the fire. But the warmth

won't touch my skin. It fades just as I reach higher.

Like a bird on the sill of glass. Watching laughter I can't grasp.

Close enough to feel wanted. Close enough to believe. But the glass

won't ever break. And it keeps me on my knees. I can see

the love inside. But I can't make it mine. Close enough. But always out
