Coinbase just paid a nearly $25 million fine because of a few bad lines of code.
Their system in Ireland had a technical glitch that failed to properly screen transactions for
two years. A simple coding error meant it couldn't read crypto addresses that had special
characters. This tiny mistake had huge consequences. It affected over $200 billion in
transactions, which was almost a third of their European activity. After discovering
the flaw, they had to review 185,000 transactions and file thousands of suspicious activity
reports. Coinbase says the bug was fixed within weeks, but it’s a wild
reminder that in the world of crypto, a small coding error can lead to massive, multi-million dollar
