Coral reefs cover less than 0.2% of the ocean but host 30% of all marine life.
That's like cramming a third of your school into one classroom. Here's the problem:
when water temperatures rise just 0.5 degrees above normal, corals literally kick out their algae
roommates in panic. This is bleaching. Without these algae, corals lose their color and their
main food source. It's like evicting your personal chef during a famine. If temperatures
stay high for weeks, the coral starves and dies. We've already lost 19% of the world's
reefs, and scientists warn 99% could disappear if oceans warm by 2 degrees Celsius.
The good news? Some corals in extreme environments
