D-Day: The Turning Point of WWII

“It’s June 6th, 1944. Before sunrise, over 150,000 Allied soldiers prepare

for the most dangerous mission of World War Two. The plan is called D-Day.

Thousands of ships move silently across the English Channel. Planes fill the sky.

And along the coast of Normandy, German defenses are waiting. At 6:30 a.m.,

the first wave hits the beaches. Omaha. Utah. Gold.

Juno. Sword. Soldiers jump into icy water under machine-gun fire.

Many don’t make it to the shore. But somehow, they keep moving forward.

By nightfall, the Allies gain a foothold in Europe. D-Day doesn’t end the war.
