Diamond Rain on 55 Cancri e

Far out in the quiet of space, there is a world called 55 Cancri e.

It is twice the size of Earth, eight times its weight, and orbits its star

so closely that a year lasts only eighteen hours. One side faces endless day,

where heat turns rock into flowing rivers of lava. The other side rests in permanent night,

cool and still. Beneath the surface lies vast carbon, pressed into diamond—layers wrapping an iron

core. A thin graphite crust floats above, like ice on dark water.

Volcanoes breathe carbon gas into the thick atmosphere. On the cool side, it falls silently

as diamond rain. A quiet jewel, glowing softly in silence. The universe sharing
