In this week's advent lesson, I want to highlight three seemingly random events in
the Christmas story. Emphasis on seemingly random. The first happens in the Book of Luke.
The Book of Luke tells us that Mary laid Jesus in a manger. Not a crib,
not a cradle, but he was laid in a manger. A feeding trough for sheep and other
cattle. A box designed to hold food. Pretty random for the baby who is
supposed to be the king of kings and the lord of lords, right? During his adult
ministry, Jesus often referred to himself as the bread of life. In the Book of John
chapter six, verse 35, Jesus says, "I am the bread of life.
