The human brain is the most complex structure in the universe, and for decades,
only one type of person was allowed to operate on it. Dr. Alexa Canady was told by her
college advisor she wasn't smart enough to be a doctor. She ignored them. In 1981,
she became the first Black female neurosurgeon in America, entering a field where zero women
who looked like her existed. For over twenty years, she specialized
in pediatric neurosurgery, saving countless children with brain and spinal cord conditions.
She didn't just break barriers in medicine. She proved that genius and compassion
have no color or gender, showing the world what's possible when you refuse
