The Medicine Man

Six years ago, I walked like the wind. Now I crawl through the days

like a ghost of my skin. I said to the doc, I can't take

this no more. He said, Here's a pill, here's another,

here's four. The bottles pile high like the years on my back.

Every dose, another change. Every label a crack. More morphine,

more madness, more lies in my head. I'm a prisoner, a shadow,

the medicine man. I asked for a cure, they gave me a plan

to drown in the blood of the medicine man.
