Eight Minutes Before Darkness

What Would Happen If the Sun Disappeared for 8 Minutes? At first, nothing would change.

That’s because sunlight takes about 8 minutes to reach Earth. For those 8 minutes,

the sky would stay blue. The Sun would still shine. Life would feel

completely normal. Then it would hit. The Sun’s light would vanish instantly. Day would turn into

night. Temperatures would begin dropping fast. Photosynthesis would stop.

Plants would shut down. But the real danger wouldn’t be the darkness.

The Sun’s gravity would be gone. Earth wouldn’t orbit anymore. Instead,

our planet would shoot straight into space at over 100,000 kilometers per hour.
