with mindfulness research, sleep science, and whole-person wellness models—to
help clients build a sustainable self-care practice that supports their body, mind,
and spirit. Across these works, self-care is framed not as indulgence, but as structured,
values-based living. Each author offers a different lens, and when blended with mindfulness
and nervous-system science, these perspectives help clients develop consistent,
meaningful behavioral change. David Deida’s The Way of the Superior Man centers self-care
around purpose, emotional honesty, and embodied presence (Deida, 2017).
