Endangered Manumea Rediscovered in Samoa

An endangered bird was spotted for the first time in 5 years! Conservationists

in Samoa have rediscovered the manumea, one of the rarest birds on Earth and one of the closest

living relatives of the extinct dodo. The bird lives only on two islands, and scientists believe

fewer than 150 adults may still exist. It hadn’t been confirmed in the wild since 2020.

The sightings were so rare and brief that no photo could be taken - but experts say the evidence

is real. Now, researchers are racing to save the manumea from extinction.
