Faking Chest Pain Backfired

did. I was 13. Physical scheduled. Shots involved. I panicked.

So I told my mom I’d been having chest pain. Like… serious chest pain.

I made it dramatic. Shortness of breath. Dizziness. The whole thing. Worst idea ever.

She didn’t cancel the appointment. She sped up. ER. Right now.

Heart monitor on. Blood pressure cuff squeezing my arm. Nurse asking questions I did not prepare

for. “On a scale of 1 to 10?” I said 8. Why did I say 8.

Doctor comes in. Very calm. Very serious. Next thing I know I’m getting blood
