Meanwhile, over at the Federal Communications Commission, bit of a niche topic, but it's really
important, there was a notable controversy around the agency's independence. During a Senate
hearing, Democratic Senator Ben Ray Luján pressed the FCC's Republican chair,
Brendan Carr, on whether the FCC is actually independent. Now, Carr said flat out,
no, the FCC isn't truly independent since President Trump can remove commissioners
at will. That was surprising given decades of tradition that's supposed to keep
regulatory agencies insulated from direct White House control. And this part is almost comical.
Just a few minutes later, the FCC edited its website to remove language about being
