Feeling Hurt by Family Humor

Am I overreacting? My brother has always been the “funny one” in the family. But the thing is,

lately his humor is almost always directed at me. At every family dinner,

he’ll make some “joke” about my dating life, my job, or even my weight.

Everyone laughs, and if I say anything, I get told to “lighten up.” I’ve tried talking

to him privately, saying the constant teasing is hurtful, but he just says, “Come on,

it’s just a joke. Don’t be so sensitive.” The thing is, it’s not one joke — it’s constant.

I feel like I can’t relax around my family without bracing for the next punchline. Part of me feels

petty for being so upset, but another part feels like this isn’t just harmless
