From Sinai’s Distance to Jesus’ Invitation

At Sinai, the people are told: “Do not come near.” Boundaries. Fear.

Distance. God descends in fire and thick darkness, and the people are terrified.

Now listen to Jesus. “Come unto Me.” No mountain. No cloud. No warning barrier.

And elsewhere, Jesus says something just as distinctive: “He who has seen Me has seen the

Father.” Yahweh descends in fire that terrifies. Jesus walks in compassion One excludes.

The other reveals the Father by drawing people close. That difference isn’t poetic.

It’s theological. Jesus reveals His Abba Father— the God of the cosmos— not a God of fear,
