Giraffes are 30 times more likely to get struck by lightning than humans. Between 1996 and
2010, only five giraffes died from lightning strikes. Sounds low,
right? But here's the twist. With just 140,000 giraffes alive during that period,
the math reveals something wild. That's 0.003 lightning deaths per thousand giraffes annually.
When you compare it to the human fatality rate, giraffes are getting zapped at 30 times
our rate. Their towering height makes them nature's lightning rods, literally the tallest
targets on the African plains.
