In 2003, a gram of cocaine in Colombia cost just $1.70. In Japan,
that same gram would set you back nearly $400. This data from a 2005 world drug
report reveals the wild global market. While it was dirt cheap in South American producer countries,
the price jumped to around $75 in the US and over $90 in many European countries like France.
The further it traveled from the source, the more expensive it became. It shows how the
price skyrockets by thousands of percent as it moves across the world, passing through
more hands and crossing more borders.
