God With Joseph in Egypt

JOSEPH — A Stranger in Egypt Genesis 39 Joseph arrived in Egypt with no name,

no freedom, and no voice. The Ishmeelites sold him to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh

and captain of the guard (Genesis 39:1). Joseph was no longer a son in his father’s house.

He was a servant in a foreign land, surrounded by a language he did not know and customs

he did not understand. But the Bible makes something clear right away: “And the LORD was with

Joseph” (Genesis 39:2). Though Joseph had lost everything familiar,

God had not left him. Joseph worked faithfully in Potiphar’s house, and his master noticed
