Golden Retriever Rescue Through Smoke

Body cam footage you've never seen. I'm pushing through smoke so thick I can't see my own

hand. Heat's radiating through my gear. Then I hear it, whimpering from

the back bedroom. I kick the door open and there's this golden retriever trapped under a

collapsed bookshelf. Flames are crawling up the walls behind him. I'm talking to him,

keeping him calm while I lift the shelf. He's shaking, terrified.

I scoop him up, seventy pounds of pure fear pressed against my chest. His heart's pounding

so hard I can feel it through my jacket. I'm moving fast now, retracing my steps

through the smoke. My lieutenant's voice crackles in my ear asking for my location.
