Hacksaw Ridge and the Battle of Okinawa

Hacksaw Ridge follows a true story of a combat medic named Desmond Doss, who refuses to use

a weapon of any kind due to his strong religious beliefs. The movie was set

in 1945, highlighting the events of the intense battles in the Pacific Theater,

mainly the Battle of Okinawa. Historically, the battle marks the conclusion of

World War II in the Pacific Theater and became a gateway for the Allied invasion by allowing the

US to launch air raids in the Japanese mainland and eventually the establishment of military bases

in Japan. The battle also resulted in a high number of casualties in both the US and

Japan, Japanese civilians holding catastrophic numbers.
