mortality. In 2018, a similar nightmare unfolded in Hawaii. Early in the morning,
phones across the islands lit up with a message that would go down in history as one of the most
terrifying alerts ever sent. "Ballistic missile threat in bond. Seek immediate shelter.
This is not a drill." For 38 minutes, residents believed a missile was on its way.
People said goodbye to loved ones. Some tried to find shelter in underground tunnels.
Others simply froze, unsure of what to do next. Social media filled with messages of
fear, confusion, and desperation. Tourists and locals alike waited for
an explosion that never came. When the correction finally arrived, it felt unreal.
