How Trees Communicate Under Attack

When insects attack a tree, it doesn’t just defend itself. Many trees release

volatile organic compounds into the air. Nearby trees detect these chemicals

and respond by increasing toxin production in their leaves. Some trees even send signals underground

through fungal networks, often called the mycorrhizal network. This allows forests to share information,

nutrients, and stress signals to stay healthy.
