How Wind Is Created

Ever wonder why wind even exists? It all starts with the Sun. The Sun heats the

Earth unevenly because land, water, and air all warm up at different

speeds. Some areas get hot faster, while others stay cooler.

When air heats up, it spreads out and becomes lighter, so it rises into the atmosphere.

Cooler air is heavier, so it sinks toward the ground. As warm air rises, it leaves behind

an area of lower pressure. Nearby cooler, higher-pressure air rushes in to

fill that space. That movement of air from high pressure to low pressure is what we feel

as wind. The bigger the temperature difference, the stronger the wind.
