What used to be known as a budget-friendly way to feed as many people as possible has evolved into

something cold, distant, and weird, with nearly 80% of Americans considering

fast food a luxury now due to high prices, instead of a fun place you visit

several times a week with your parents. Basic items like McDonald's cheeseburgers and Chick-fil-A

nuggets have risen as much as 200% in less than five years, with dire consequences

for the lower and middle class families who make up much of the fast food customer base.
