I Trained My Replacement

“I trained the guy who replaced me. Didn’t know that’s what was happening at the time.

I thought I was just being helpful. I walked him through our systems. Explained how meetings

worked. Even shared a few shortcuts I learned the hard way. What I didn’t realize…

was that he was watching what I said in meetings — and repeating it

louder after I finished. Ideas I brought up casually? He turned into slides. Projects I led quietly?

He took notes like they were his. When layoffs were announced, my name was on the

list. They told me it was ‘nothing personal.’ Said I was ‘valuable,’ just not necessary.

That part stuck with me. So instead of arguing, I started calling people.
