Iceland’s Beer Day: March 1st

Did you know Iceland has a real Beer Day? For 74 years, beer was actually

illegal in Iceland. Then, on March 1st, 1989, the ban was finally

lifted — and people celebrated hard. Today, March 1st is known as Beer Day,

an unofficial holiday where Icelanders raise a glass to the end of prohibition. What started as

a political change turned into a national tradition — and now Iceland has one of the most
