In 1957, Soviet cartographer Dmitri Volkov vanished from a remote Ural Mountains station.
He left behind a journal of impossible coordinates and a desk covered in ash.
The logbook showed Volkov requesting seismographs and radiation detectors. Tools for geologists, not mapmakers,
raising questions about his true mission. Local villagers whispered of strange lights, pulsing from the
mountains on the night he vanished, unnatural and deliberate. KGB files hinted at unauthorized excavations
near his last location, their reports ending abruptly. Decades later,
his journal surfaced in a Moscow flea market. Its final entry, dated the day
before his disappearance, read: 'The coordinates were correct. They were waiting.'
