Inaccurate Portrayals of Indigenous Peoples in Peter Pan

Before we start , it's important to acknowledge that the Disney film

Peter Pan, shows inaccurate and harmful portrayals of the Indigenous people.

Rather than removing this classic movie that we all know and love, we wanted to keep

the original story of Peter Pan, but do so by acknowledging the outdated and inaccurate depictions

it included. The “Native American” characters in the movie are shown wearing feathered

headdresses, aswell as speaking in broken English, and performing dances around a fire with

exaggeration. Beyond the graphics, their communication, and actions negatively strengthen harmful
