Israel Uses Gas Deal to Pressure Egypt

Israel has just seriously undermined Egypt and is now using energy as leverage.

Recently, the two countries signed one of the largest gas deals in Israel’s history,

a $35 billion agreement lasting until 2040, under which Israel would supply natural gas from its Leviathan

field to help stabilize Egypt’s collapsing energy grid. For Egypt, this deal was a

lifeline, providing long-term energy to keep factories running and homes powered.

But now Israel has flipped the script, refusing to deliver the gas it promised after realizing

Egypt has become heavily dependent on it. According to reports, Israel is using

the deal as political pressure, demanding Egypt normalize relations further and pull
