Jane Creba and the Yonge Street Shooting

On December 26, 2005, Toronto’s Yonge Street was packed with holiday shoppers.

Just north of the Eaton Centre, a gang-related gunfight suddenly erupted in the crowd.

Multiple shots were fired in seconds. Fifteen-year-old Jane Creba was struck by a stray bullet

while shopping with her sister. She had no connection to the violence. Jane was rushed

to St. Michael’s Hospital, where she died during emergency surgery. Six other innocent

bystanders were also wounded. The shooting stunned the city. Toronto Police launched
